To all FBSD users

I have been posting to this FBSD Questions group for weeks asking about user
ppp configuration for answering incoming calls to FBSD box from MS/windows
box. Only responses are from nerds making comments about ms/windows. Been
through 8 books on FBSD and Unix looking for info. Every thing is sooo out
of date as to be useless. Even the new FBSD handbook user-ppp incoming calls
section reads like FAQ instead of giving useful info and examples. So I have
decided to change my approach from asking questions to asking for someone
who has a working user ppp dialin to FBSD and dialout to ISP environment
using modems to just list the contents of all the configuration files
necessary to define there working environment. Give me a working example for
FBSD 4.4 and I can take it from there. To remove all unknown variables I
have created a test PC with a FBSD 4.4 system right out the box. All the
configuration files are as delivered from the install CD. NO firewall, no
filtering, no NIC card or LAN behind the FBSD box, using the GENERIC kernel.
A very simple system with out any changes at all. Have all ready addressed
the controller less win modem issue. Using two pre win modem era external
14.4 modems I retrieved from the archive obsolete equipment bin at work. I
know the modems are functional because I tested them using windows98 dialer
to my ISP. Also used FBSD tip command to issue Hayes AT command and received
OK response.

Please somebody who has a working user ppp modem environment that answers
incoming calls from a ms/windows box and dials out to an ISP, would you post
the contents of the configuration files to your working environment. If you
had to do any manual hand tweaking to file permissions or links or what ever
please include this info also.

If you do not have both directions (dialin/dialout), then examples of just
dialout or just dialin would still be helpful.

To the best of my knowledge here are the config files required

From the ETC directory
Gettytab, group, host.conf, hosts, rc.conf, resolv.conf, ttys

From the ETC/PPP directory
ppp.conf, ppp.secret

From /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin
login script file named ppplogin or what ever name you used

From master.password
User id definition for user who dials in

From ppp.secret
User id definition for user who dials in

From /var/log/ppp.log
Messages generated when dial out connection is made to ISP followed by the
messages generated when dial in user connects to FBSD box from ms/windows.

If your environment uses the linkup and linkdown files please include them.
If I have missed any config files that you use please include them.

Please accept my sincere thank yous to the person who steps up to the plate
and takes the time and makes the effort to answer this post.

Sincerely Yours

Joe Barbish
