i bought 2 netgear-cards... i have put one in my workstation and one in my server. both running freebsd. the workstation 5.0-CURRENT and the server 4.7-STABLE. when uploading or downloading something with these new cards i got a HUGE cpu-load. 100% on my p233mmx and almost 90% on my p3 700 when transferring in 5-6mbyte/s. "Interrupt" in top on about 50%. i dont think it should be like this. i have tried to put them in different pci-slots without success. on both machines the USB-hub is using the same IRQ as the network card does. i disabled the USB-hub on my workstation and the cpu-load was lowered with about 50% but i must have usb-support. on my server i dont know what to do. another thing i noticed is that when downloading or uploading from any of the computers the free memory is lowered whole time down to about 800K free and the inactive memory i growing up to about 300M. this is on both machines. cat see anything in "top" that uses much memory. what can it be that occurs this? both motherboards supports bus mastering at all pci slots.
