For future reference, the -current mailing list no longer deals with issues
related to freebsd 5.x or 6.x.

Not sure what you mean by "5.3 or 6.0." If you have a 5-stable system, you
have to update to the latest 5-stable before updating to 6.x. This is
discussed in /usr/src/UPDATING.
