I have been using cricket for about 6 months now and really like its functionality. As far as having any advantages over MRTG, I don't see any glaring reason to change if you already use MRTG and like it. I will say that it was more complex to get running and I had a great deal of frustration in getting it to work like I wanted it to, but like most things, once you get it where you want it, it works nicely and you can 'tweak' the settings to get things working exactly as you see fit. One thing to note, since it generates the graphs 'on the fly' (unlike mrtg) it is quite sluggish on your web server. To make things bearable, I highly recommend using mod-perl, it makes things much snappier and you don't really notice the delay. Just my 2 cents worth.
