They can use the quarterly branch for now.

Give a chance to upstream to fix (you contacted them only a couple of hours ago)
Give a chance to others to analyse and provide a workaround.

Because we don't always need a hammer to kill a fly, when we will have no other
solution left then maybe this will be time to evaluate gmake43, but we are not
there yet.
