I will copy the existing numpy 1 to a new port, switch all consumers to it, then update this port to the latest version. They will be separate commits but pushed together. Each individual consumer or small groups of them (like scipy consumers that may also individually specify numpy) can be tested for numpy 2 compatibility. Thus no large exp-run is needed.
