I am trying to configure my printer under FreeBSD. I followed the
instructions in the handbook and when i get to the part that says to do
"lptest > /dev/lpt0" i get no response from the printer. Here is the
printer in my dmesg output:
ppc0 at 0x378 irq 7 flags 0x40 on isa
ppc0: SMC-like chipset (ECP/EPP/PS2/NIBBLE) in COMPATIBLE mode
ppc0: FIFO with 16/16/16 bytes threshold
ppb0: IEEE1284 device found /NIBBLE/ECP
Probing for PnP devices on ppbus0:
ppbus0: <HEWLETT-PACKARD DESKJET 710C> SCP,VLINK
lpt0: <generic printer> on ppbus 0
lpt0: Interrupt-driven port
ppi0: <generic parallel i/o> on ppbus 0

I am initializing it with lptcontrol -i -d /dev/lpt0.
Anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong?

I was also wonder what extended mode for lptcontrol was
