The first is a terse listing of supported hardware, the second is a collection of essays, notes, observations and tips about various bits of hardware. I'm not entirely satisfied with the current arrangement and have been pondering ways to merge the two. My general idea is to have each section laid out something like: 1.1 CDROM 1.1.1 Supported In 2.0 SCSI ... Added in 2.1 SoundBlaster ... Added in -current IDE ... 1.1.2 Notes/quirks (Commentary, hints and tips. Some entries in 1.1.1 may link directly to sections in here.) 1.2 Sound Cards 1.2.1 Supported ... In a way, the current slit is nice because the supported hardware list is quite compact, but I think the above would be nearly as effective. It also deals with "what version supports what?" question and makes this section of the handbook itself version neutral. What doesn't fit in are the excellent but long essays such as SCSI which covers a broad range of topics including controllers, disks, tapes, cdroms and the like. Maybe we can push them into the "Advanced Topics" section and place cross references in the general hardware section. The other section that gets tangled up with hardware is the kernel config. In particular, what the driver names are and typical kernel config entries for them. In the hardware section or the kernel config section? -john == jfieber@indiana.edu =========================================== == http://fallout.campusview.indiana.edu/~jfieber ================
