At the moment the only thing that uses tun's is ppp (pppd uses ppp devices, it had better not be creating tunX.pid !). I'll change newsyslog, but the next ppp change will be to make it use syslogd instead of rolling it's own, so the newsyslog.conf example will get undone too. This won't be for a few days.
