Tor, sorry for not responding earlier, but I had to set up a new system to be able to fully evaluate your patch; here are the results: /bin/sh in FreeBSD 4.1-RELEASE and even 4.1-STABLE exhibits the bug; 4.1-STABLE with your patch does not crash any longer.
