In section 4.3.1 (Installing a Package) of the FreeBSD Handbook (http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/packages-using.ht ml), it says that packages can be found at ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/ports/packages. I couldn't find that directory.
