I think this is a case for Larry Wall's credo: "Easy things should be
easy, hard things should be possible".

So, how about splitting it up into two pages?  The first, pointed to
by Chapter 6, would cover a kernel build with no sources.  The second,
pointed to by the first, would cover the issues involved in (changing
and) building from sources.
