"Good performance" _only_ on a lightly loaded system. If your
CPU is busy with other things it doesn't have the cycles
available to service your partial modem or partial printer.
Start a download and try to format a floppy at the same time.
Unless they've done some rewriting of their code the download
will fall apart even with a real modem.
