Stephen, Doug White recently helped me get upsd (on -stable, to be relevant) working with my SmartUPS 1400. The changes mostly have to do with line voltage sensing - there is a data table in the code which describes all the multipliers. He had a version of upsd on his personal area - http://people.FreeBSD.org/~dwhite/upsd-2.0.1.6.1.tgz It contains a upsd.conf.120v suitable for 120V systems. I just bought a SmartUPS 700 (115VAC power supply) and am currently working on making upsd understand the settings for that unit. I don't know what your power standard is over there, but if it's 230 or 420 you should be able just to hook the box up and go.
