It appears not. For what it's worth, upgrading from 14.0 to 14.2 and updating
all packages results in the same behavior with MPD5:

Will again be reverting to 14.0 so I can continue using MPD5, as the PPP daemon
included in the base installation does not perform reliably with less than
optimal cellular connections. It always, regardless of various sysctl tweaks,
produces a lot of buffer overflows which ultimately require frequent
restarts...

As this appears to affect the communication between cellular modems when using
MPD5 but not PPP, does that narrow the potential causes? Could this be a
default baud rate issue, as Franco suggested?

Available to do any testing required...
