I'm also not sure the change occured in 4.6, I seem to remember having to deal with this issues in 4.4 or 4.5 maybe. I didn't mean to suggest that people change the default startup files with my initial response, I was pointing out to the originator of the PR that there was indeed documentation about his issue, but maybe it's a bit much to suggest one read the man pages for X before running it. ;) Josh ps yes, I know the faq and handbook are full of information that duplicates info given in the man page.
