I saw this odd behaviour also. Along with Garrett Wollman, <wollman@lcs.mit.edu>, I tracked it down to an odd handling of the "stty oxtabs" flag. We sort of concluded that it must be xterm's mishandling of the tab expansion. jdlhome | help
