I am putting together a new POP3 server and am looking at various RAID solutions. I have a couple of boxes deployed using 3ware IDE controllers as well as a Mylex DAC960 and a MegaRAID 428. For RAID0, the 3ware cards seem to perform quite well (I am using them for USENET and proxy servers). But for the POP3, I need something with a little more performance than I seem to get with the 3ware, Mylex and MegaRAID cards. (The 3ware is *REALLY* slow in RAID1, dont know about RAID 10). Has anyone tried the new Adaptec 2100S cards ? I dont want to shell out $500 bucks if they are not that much better than the DAC960s. What about vinum ? Is anyone using it in a production machine ? Is it reliable and ready for prime time ? I want to do either RAID5 or 10 in order to get speed and reliability.
