G'day Jukka :)

Normally I think we orstrayluns live in the best part of the globe but over
the past week I've been looking enviously at the daily temperatures in your
area .....its 1830 here now & still 87F ... was about 95F a few hours ago :(

I dunno that many Diamond modems ever got this far from home .... same goes
for most of the ones I notice in the hardware compatibility lists. There's
no end of the dreaded generic winmodems from those asian countries, plus
locally made & generally good quality Netcomm / Banksia / Maestro. We did
have a very active distributor for Hayes before they turned turtle. I'm
still using a few of them but they were awfully overpriced compared with
Maestro. ($300+ vs $100).

So you have lightning there too?? ..... anyone in OZ without industrial
grade protection has gotta have geological specimens in the head !!!! I
agree generally with your view re internal modems, however I did get
reasonable results from most of the 33.6k Netcomms I used to rescue some
prehistoric 386 Unisys boxes. Its not practical to put a $100 high speed
serial card into a $20 box but a $30 modem is often OK.
