Do you have /usr/local/samba/bin/nmbd -B <yourbroadcastaddress> -G SOMETHING
/usr/local/samba/smbd -D

in /etc/rc.local?

I refrained from starting samba via inetd.conf instead I started the
daemons from rc.local.

Do you have a user guest/pcguest on the FreeBSD box?
