I setup another partition for / (root) on another HDD and checked what happened. The newer kernel cannot detect properly the GEOM information of my ad0, WDC AC2850F/27.25C38, so that /dev/ad0s1a which is to be mounted on / is not available from devfs. The kernel on Aug 7 2003 is working well. But the kernel on Sep 9 2003 or later does not.
