I find myself agreeing with this. In particular, lack of sound support makes it a poor choice for the OP.

The lack of packages makes it difficult to do anything non-trivial. Building ports is very slow and requires a high level of technical expertise to correct makefiles when things break.

Still, if we don't keep tinkering with it, it won't get any better.
