I am not exactly what the cause is, be it make flags or otherwise, but at ~2 hours per attempt on the current build box, it is a bit too time consuming to guess. Any ideas what might be the problem here? It doesn't appear to be hdd space related, but possibly memory? Too many args to "ar"?help
