It's a long-standing problem that (in my experience) has been present
since 4.0 release (and maybe before that; the only boxen I've run 3.x
and 2.x on have had M$ serial mice).

I have a hacked version of the driver code that, through a couple of
horrible kludges, almost entirely eliminates the problem for me. It's
not a real fix, just a workaround, and currently only kicks in if the
mouse is a Synaptics touchpad (which is what I have), but if anyone
wants the source they should mail me.

ciao
