On my laptop, that'd be a "no" :-) As I said in my followup, it worked for me after I commented out the "NETSMB" option and left everything else in. I mounted an SMB drive earlier, it works fine - just somewhat unfriendly, what with the panic and all. Shouldn't the NETSMB option be commented out by default if it causes these sorts of side effects?
