Maybe you should try something simpler like mplayer or flac123/mpg321 for testing. Are your mixer levels set to max? The output of the "mixer" command should show vol and pcm at 100. If this doesn't help, there's probably something missing in the driver. Alternatively you can install audio/oss from ports which lists "M Audio Delta 66" as supported.
