We have all the the info we need. Some drivers are kind enough to tell is without needing to test. A suitable microbenchmark would tell whether or not it's worth it. (I expect it's a wash, personally -- the MAC address is likely to already be in cache by the time we care, and it's no more than eight bytes long.) -GAWollman -- Garrett A.
