Emacs is nice :-)

XEmacs works in console mode, and is actually nicer in console mode
than the regular emacs.

I've yet to decide whether it is nicer in X; it has pros (graphics
support) and cons (the clipboard handling SUCKS - separate clipboards
that 'sometimes' mesh.  GNU Emacs handles it nicely...)
