I'm updating my 4.9-STABLE box to 7.4.1, mostly out of idle curiosity at this point. The installation using ports works fine, but the option to regression test fails. The first problem is that "gmake check" in the ./src/test/regress directory fails after compilation since root is now allowed to execute pg_ctl. After chmoding the regress and ./contrib/spi directories "gmake check" now fails when the postmaster allegedly fails to start; however, it's actually running and the logfile is not of much help. Running pg_ctl manually works fine, no errors. When I installed 7.3 the regression tests ran OK. A search of this newsgroup and Google turned up nothing of interest. Mike Squires mikes at siralan.org
