Sometimes just articulating the problem is the most important step in fixing it. So immediately after sending that message, having seen mention of the "stupid" apachectl "script" in the archive of this list, i decided to take a look inside that /usr/local/sbin/apachectl business and found: #!/bin/sh # # Apache control script designed to allow an easy command line interface # to controlling Apache. Written by Marc Slemko, 1997/08/23 ... # the path to your httpd binary, including options if necessary HTTPD='/usr/local/sbin/apache -f /usr/local/etc/apache/apache.conf' ...
