it tells you when you connect. P6-150 with 512MB RAM. so 1250 users is not the upper limit on current PC hardware. as a side note, when we installed solaris 2.5 on our intel based news server system (it had been running freebsd), we had to immediately double the RAM to 128MB to keep it from swapping. now it handles 6 million articles with a load average only slightly higher than under freebsd :).
