I checked where fields are placed after and before this change on all our
archs and ABI is preserved. I wrote a small tool for this purpose if you
want to play:

	http://people.freebsd.org/~pjd/ftstest.tbz

	% tar -jvxf ftstest.tbz
	% cd ftstest
	% make
	% old/oldfts
	% new/newfts

It shows addresses of few fields in the structure.
