Actually, the basic premise "No X code in the base tree" was established 
some time ago.

Personally, I wouldn't mind having an _optional_ category for base system
components that were X-dependent for things like gxditview, Tk, pTk etc.
However this is something that should be done properly, and in the meantime
the systematic removal of all X code is a wise start.
