[-- Attachment #1 --] Warner, it depends on network characteristics. In our case, we were unable to do NFS over the Linksys PCMPC100 cards, because fragment bursts of large (9K) packets arrived too fast at 100Mbps. It looked like the driver was too slow in taking them off the card, and the card started to drop the later fragments, which killed reassembly. Enabling a larger on-card buffer fixed this (in some sense) because it allowed buffering of an entire burst of fragments, and so reassembly succeeds. It also looked like the inter-fragment delay is shorter than the inter-packet delay for our NFS server. Another workaround was to force NFS to use small packets for the mountpoint, there is some mount option to do that.
