Thanks for your answer. I can't work out what the problem is either. I can successfully make and install GENERIC (make buildkernel;make installkernel) no problem. But even simple modifications to GENERIC seem to break the build of ipfilter for some inexplicable reason. The only changes I made where to add device pcm device sbc0 to the bottom to add support for my SoundBlaster to the kernel. But even this resulted in exactly the same error as I reported earlier. Very Strange. Does anyone have any ideas how I could be breaking this? Otherwise, I'll just "rm -rf /usr/src" and re-cvsup and hopefully that should sort it.
