Those diagnostic messages do not look to be fatal.

Sadly the gpart error message is ambiguous and it would say 'Invalid argument'
when device does not exist *OR* device does not (already) contain a partition
scheme (along other possible failures).  Did you try any other operations with
da devices, e.g. gpart create?
