The following reply was made to PR kern/74777; it has been noted by GNATS. From: Carsten Zimmermann <cz-freebsd@aegisnet.biz> To: Kris Kennaway <kris@obsecurity.org>, freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org Cc: Mark Diekhans <markd@Kermodei.com> Subject: Re: misc/74777: Bootup "beep" in 5.3 should be disabled by default Date: Tue, 7 Dec 2004 16:03:56 +0100 --hQiwHBbRI9kgIhsi Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hello -=20 while it clearly seems to be a question of individual taste whether or not it should be enabled by default, I might igree with the point-of-view that it is useful for headless machines. FreeBSD has=20 the reputation as being a server os, mainly. Server systems are mostly=20 headless, indeed.=20 But for the growing croud using FreeBSD as a desktop system, it should be able to have the beep disabled without the need of a patch. So some kind easy of configuration is needed.
