it boots, but only partially and only in a simulator. Benno Rice is doing the major part of the port right now, the rest of us are waiting for the kernel to be finished so we can lend a hand. About your issues with darwin... Have you looked into XF86, you can easily do multiple virtual terminals with that. Or if you're really a sadist, you could probably get getty running on a couple of virtual terminals like they do in linux. Darwin has all the major features of fBSD, it just handles IO and some kernelspace stuff differently.
