I would:
hit space to get the bootblocks to not load the loader
da(0,a)/boot/loader.old
cd /usr/src/contrib/awk
cvs up -PdA
cd /usr/src/gnu/usr.bin/awk
cvs up -PdA
make obj
make all install
reboot
