Turns out backing out rev 1.8.2.11 of sys/dev/sound/pci/csa.c eliminated the panic for me. I don't know how representative my experience is, presumably this panic doesn't happen on all hardware or it wouldn't be committed. However, I'd rather see still-broken sound on resume than panic on resume in a -RELEASE.
