I just built a kernel from current (src-cur.1031.gz) and it boots fine
until it gets to the scsi portion:

FreeBSD 2.2-\M^?#0: Sun Oct  1 13:16:46 EDT 1995
    root@tippy.vnet.net:/usr/share/src/src/sys/compile/TIPPY
CPU: 100-MHz Pentium 815\\100 (Pentium-class CPU)
  Origin = "GenuineIntel"  Id = 0x525  Stepping=5
  Features=0x1bf<FPU,VME,PSE,MCE,CX8,APIC>
real memory  = 16777216 (16384K bytes)
avail memory = 14757888 (14412K bytes)
//...stuff deleted ide drive stuff included just in case it matters
wdc0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7 irq 14 on isa
wdc0: unit 0 (wd0): <ST3660A>
wd0: 520MB (1065456 sectors), 1057 cyls, 16 heads, 63 S/T, 512 B/S
wdc0: unit 1 (wd1): <WDC AC2540H>
wd1: 515MB (1056384 sectors), 1048 cyls, 16 heads, 63 S/T, 512 B/S
wdc1 at 0x170-0x177 irq 15 on isa
wdc1: unit 0 (wd2): <WDC AC2340H>
wd2: 325MB (666600 sectors), 1010 cyls, 12 heads, 55 S/T, 512 B/S
//...more deleted
Probing for devices on the PCI bus:
chip0 <Intel 82437 (Triton)> rev 1 on pci0:0
chip1 <Intel 82371 (Triton)> rev 2 on pci0:7
vga0 <VGA-compatible display device> rev 0 int a irq 10 on pci0:17
pci0:18: Adaptec, device=0x7178, class=storage (scsi) [no driver assigned]

Death - automatic reboot time:'(

But with a kernel built with the current from around this time:

FreeBSD 2.2-CURRENT #0: Mon Sep 25 01:03:55 EDT 1995
                        ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
works fine:

Probing for devices on the PCI bus:
chip0 <Intel 82437 (Triton)> rev 1 on pci0:0
chip1 <Intel 82371 (Triton)> rev 2 on pci0:7
vga0 <VGA-compatible display device> rev 0 int a irq 10 on pci0:17
ahc0 <Adaptec 2940 SCSI host adapter> rev 0 int a irq 11 on pci0:18
ahc0: 2940 Single Channel, SCSI Id=7, aic7870, 16 SCBs
(ahc0:0:0): "FUJITSU M1606S-512 6226" type 0 fixed SCSI 2
sd0(ahc0:0:0): Direct-Access 1041MB (2131992 512 byte sectors)
sd0(ahc0:0:0): with 3457 cyls, 6 heads, and an average 102 sectors/track
(ahc0:1:0): "NEC CD-ROM DRIVE:501 2.5" type 5 removable SCSI 2
cd0(ahc0:1:0): CD-ROM
cd0(ahc0:1:0): NOT READY asc:4,0
cd0(ahc0:1:0): Logical unit not ready, cause not reportable
can't get the size

Since / lives on sd0a I boot like:  hd(3,a)/kernel

Is this something bad or do I need to do something on my end??????

Thanx!
chris

 We must overcome conventional values in order to live creatively; the
established values of society were invented by the weak to enable them to
triumph over the strong. REBEL!! Toss Windows 95, install FreeBSD today!
