One recent change I made was to do the swapon first, before anything else (e.g. newfs'ing root). It's possible that this is having some strange effects, though the lack of disk activity means that traditional swapping-to-death behavior is not the cause. Also, don't forget that everything in /stand is crunched, so it will take some time to decompress things in memory if you're running them from there. More than that, I can't really say.. Jordan
