-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA256 The first RC build of the 10.2-RELEASE release cycle is now available. Installation images are available for: o amd64 GENERIC o i386 GENERIC o ia64 GENERIC o powerpc GENERIC o powerpc64 GENERIC64 o sparc64 GENERIC The image checksums follow at the end of this email. FreeBSD/arm SD card images are available for: o BEAGLEBONE o CUBOX-HUMMINGBOARD o GUMSTIX o RPI-B o PANDABOARD o WANDBOARD Note: For convenience for those without console access to supported arm devices, a default 'freebsd' user exists for ssh(1) login. The password is 'freebsd', which it is strongly recommended to change after gaining access to the system. Additionally, the 'root' user password is 'root', which is also recommended to change. All images can be downloaded from: ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/ISO-IMAGES/10.2/ If you notice problems, please report them through the Bugzilla PR system. If you would like to use SVN to do a source based update of an existing system, use the "releng/10.2" branch. A list of changes since 10.1-RELEASE are available in the release notes: https://www.freebsd.org/releases/10.2R/relnotes.html Please note, the release notes page is not yet complete, and will be updated on an ongoing basis as the 10.2-RELEASE cycle progresses. === Changes Since 10.2-BETA2 === o tcpdump(8) has been updated to obtain capsicum(4) rights for dump file rotation. o The ixgbe(4) driver has been updated to fix setting sysctl(8) tunable entries in loader.conf(5). o The ZFS txg_quiesce() function has been updated to use __noinline(), allowing DTrace monitoring for txg_quiesce() calls. o bsdinstall(8) has been updated to align partitions on 1MB boundaries when ZFS is the selected filesystem, as well as a number of other changes, including detecting BIOS versions to determine when the 'active' flag should be set on the boot partition. o The quota(1) utility has been updated to support IPv6. o The xen(4) netfront interface has been updated to preserve configurations across virtual machine migrations. o The ggatec(8) and ggatel(8) utilities have been fixed for the i386 architecture, as well as a bug in ggated(8) that would prevent the client from receiving a notice of a connection failure. o ssh(1) has been updated to canonicalize hostnames before attempting to locate it in the hosts file. o Changes to the kernel timecounter introduced earlier in stable/10 have been reverted. o The kernel DTrace has been updated to ensure locstat_nsecs() has no effect if lockstat probes are not enabled or when the profiled lock carries the LO_NOPROFILE flag. o Resource exhaustion due to sessions stuck in LAST_ACK state has been fixed, as well as a number of additional TCP fixes. [FreeBSD-SA-15:13] o The PMC Sierra SAS/SATA driver has been merged from 11-CURRENT. o The ichwd(4) driver has been updated to recognize additional Intel Lynx Point devices. o The sfxge(4) driver has been updated to support firmware versions earlier than 4.2.1. o The ping6(8) utility has been updated to include the '-x' and '-X' options in the ping(8) utility. o A bug preventing the ND6_IFF_IFDISABLED flag from clearing when the newly-added IPv6 address was /128 has been fixed. o The gif_interfaces and gifconfig examples have been removed from the default rc.conf(5). o Group membership of a cloned device when the device is moved has been fixed. o Offset calculation in variable substitution in jail.conf(5) has been fixed. o The default pkg(8) configuration file (/etc/pkg/FreeBSD.conf) has been updated to use the packages built on the quarterly branch instead of head. === Virtual Machine Disk Images === VM disk images are available for the amd64 and i386 architectures. Disk images may be downloaded from the following URL (or any of the FreeBSD FTP mirrors): ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/VM-IMAGES/10.2-RC1/ The partition layout is: ~ 512k - freebsd-boot GPT partition type (bootfs GPT label) ~ 1GB - freebsd-swap GPT partition type (swapfs GPT label) ~ ~17GB - freebsd-ufs GPT partition type (rootfs GPT label) The disk images are available in QCOW2, VMDK, and raw disk image formats The image download size is approximately 135 MB, which decompress to a 20GB sparse image. Note: An issue preventing the VHD-formatted images from booting was discovered during the BETA1 build, which is still being investigated. Notes for consumers of the dvd1.iso image: o Due to human error when updating several files when the releng/10.2 branch was created, the packages on the dvd1.iso for amd64 and i386 were fetched from the 'latest' package set instead of the 'quarterly', as was intended. If using the 'latest' set is preferred, copy the default /etc/pkg/FreeBSD.conf to /usr/local/etc/pkg/repos/<something>, and edit the configuration file as described in the comments within. The 10.2-RC2 dvd1.iso for amd64 and i386 will contain packages from the 'quarterly' package set as was intended for the 10.2-RC1. o The bsdconfig(8) utility cannot install the packages included on the DVD, however they can be installed manually. To install packages from the dvd1.iso installer, create and mount the /dist directory: # mkdir -p /dist # mount -t cd9660 /dev/cd0 /dist Replace '/dev/cd0' with the appropriate cd(4) device as necessary. Next, bootstrap pkg(8) from the DVD: # env REPOS_DIR=/dist/packages/repos \ pkg bootstrap At this point, pkg-install(8) can be used to install additional packages from the DVD. Please note, the REPOS_DIR environment variable should be used each time using the DVD as the package repository, otherwise conflicts with packages from the upstream mirrors may occur when they are fetched. For example, to install Gnome and Xorg, run: # env REPOS_DIR=/dist/packages/repos \ pkg install xorg-server xorg gnome3 [...] === Amazon EC2 AMI Images === FreeBSD/amd64 EC2 AMIs are available in the following regions: us-east-1 region: ami-a38f51c8 us-west-1 region: ami-d5da2791 us-west-2 region: ami-85868ab5 sa-east-1 region: ami-4139b65c eu-west-1 region: ami-58377d2f eu-central-1 region: ami-12d6d30f ap-northeast-1 region: ami-fe14a2fe ap-southeast-1 region: ami-a09a98f2 ap-southeast-2 region: ami-7d185947 === Azure / VM Depot Images === FreeBSD/amd64 images are available for use within the Microsoft Azure hosting platform through VM Depot. For deployment instructions, see: https://vmdepot.msopentech.com/Vhd/Show?vhdId=56718&version=59063 === Vagrant Images === FreeBSD/amd64 images are available on the Hashicorp Atlas site for the VMWare Desktop and VirtualBox providers, and can be installed by running: % vagrant init freebsd/FreeBSD-10.2-RC1 % vagrant up === Upgrading === The freebsd-update(8) utility supports binary upgrades of amd64 and i386 systems running earlier FreeBSD releases. Systems running earlier FreeBSD releases can upgrade as follows: # freebsd-update upgrade -r 10.2-RC1 During this process, freebsd-update(8) may ask the user to help by merging some configuration files or by confirming that the automatically performed merging was done correctly. # freebsd-update install The system must be rebooted with the newly installed kernel before continuing. # shutdown -r now After rebooting, freebsd-update needs to be run again to install the new userland components: # freebsd-update install It is recommended to rebuild and install all applications if possible, especially if upgrading from an earlier FreeBSD release, for example, FreeBSD 9.x. Alternatively, the user can install misc/compat9x and other compatibility libraries, afterwards the system must be rebooted into the new userland: # shutdown -r now Finally, after rebooting, freebsd-update needs to be run again to remove stale files: # freebsd-update install == ISO CHECKSUMS == o 10.2-RC1 amd64 GENERIC: SHA256 (FreeBSD-10.2-RC1-amd64-bootonly.iso) =
