The MALLOC_PRODUCTION define is used inside the FreeBSD source tree (actually only in jemalloc, it seems). You most likely don't want it to apply 'globally', since third-party programs (e.g. ports) might give a totally different meaning to this define -- or most likely: no meaning at all. :)
