It depends largely upon two things: a) the individual manufacturer and
b) whether or not the specific card is already included in the freebsd
hardware list on their website.

serial numbers and model numbers are often silk-screened in white on
the green body of the card.  also, the large square chip that is the
'main brain' of the card frequently has manufacturer name/numbers on it.

get a model number and/or chipset, and cross-reference it with the list
on the web site.  sometimes the manufacturer's web site will give you
more details as well.
