My system

$ uname -a
FreeBSD hpquad.greconet 9.2-RELEASE FreeBSD 9.2-RELEASE #0 r255898: Thu
Sep 26 22:50:31 UTC 2013
root@bake.isc.freebsd.org:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC  amd64

1) I installed java from ports,

$ cat distinfo
SHA256 (apache-ant-1.8.4-bin.tar.bz2) =
aeaed7d5c2b1e73ffc195d713931047ecc113b8c9844df5cbac2797007455069
SIZE (apache-ant-1.8.4-bin.tar.bz2) = 4257152
SHA256 (openjdk-6-src-b28-04_oct_2013.tar.gz) =
ac4fceed060ad61dab938c41181455fb0910f58f6944f820f0637b0f0c64bf75
SIZE (openjdk-6-src-b28-04_oct_2013.tar.gz) = 53599044
SHA256 (jtreg-4.1-bin-b05_29_nov_2012.zip) =
9291eb4a14501232b35614e88686ff66ad8b69d0098dbd4322b28f97b672653d
SIZE (jtreg-4.1-bin-b05_29_nov_2012.zip) = 5993382

2) I also installed openjdk6-jre from ports, but no version number given.

3) I then installed geogebra from math/geogebra-i18n

$ cat distinfo

SHA256 (GeoGebra-Unixlike-Installer-4.2.47.0.tar.gz) =
fe179728be5541d139cb74d9fce9dc5a1eaca032a7eaf0b76943bbc6bd73bd48
SIZE (GeoGebra-Unixlike-Installer-4.2.47.0.tar.gz) = 9279700

****Problem* was that characters typed into "Input" pane did not display
properly; they were superposed. However, they were received properly by
geogebra because functions would plot correctly and algebra pane
displayed input correctly. This was a nuisance because you could not
tell whether you had made a typo while entering a long function until
you tried to plot it.

4) Updated to geogebra 4.2.60.0 04 but problem persisted.

5) Removing openjdk6 and installing openjdk7 solved problem.

The only reason I installed openjdk6 instead of openjdk7 initially was
the concern that there might be compatibility issues with openjdk6-jre.
I haven't detected any so far.

Hope this helps, at least a little.

Regards,

Frank Greco
