I can not reproduce the problem on a machine with
4.4 installed from the net. (I looked at man pages which where
not preformatted)

However, I do not have the CDs and can therefor not check 
if the problem exists on the CD version (which I doubt since
they should be identical).  

/usr/bin/groff is in bin.bq I belive (I look in the files on
the our FTP server).

If you still feel the PR should be reopened, please do so or
let me know and I will reopen it.
