I was somewhat annoyed by the messages, but really annoyed by the reduction of alternate superblocks, which I thought was computed based on the number of cylinder groups. If the cylinder groups are made absurdly huge, that calculation falls down. Perhaps this has been changed, but since 100Meg only got 3 alternates, and I recall my old VAX 11/780 on 4.3BSD had 13 or so on the 80Meg (RM03) primary, I think this is bad. FYI, the newfs man page says that if the s/g value is NOT 4096, it will be impossible for fsck to find alternate superblocks. 4000s/c != 4096s/g.
