From: "Brian K. Shiratsuki" <bks@bks.com> the ``transend proxy,'' which allows its clients to trade bandwidth for image quality, is currently available for use outside its host organization, the university of california, berkeley. the idea is to avoid consuming bandwidth unnecessarily for clients that may not be able to use all the information anyway (eg, a grey scale pda web browser). another very interesting application would relate to removing web billboards... more information is available at <http://transend.cs.berkeley.edu>.
