I coincidentally had a similar KDE question, so I'll try to get you started toward your answer then pose my own question, sound good? I started at: http://www.FreeBSD.org/cgi/search.cgi?words=KDE&max=25&source=www And saw a link to: http://www.freebsd.org/gnome/index.html But made up the following URL and was told no such page: http://www.freebsd.org/kde/index.html These two URLs are your best bet for a good FAQ about manually installing 3.0, let me know if it goes smoothly: http://www.freebsd.org/ports/kde.html http://www.kde.org/ Now my question is... when kde is either pkg_add'ed or manually downloaded and installed via a ./configure or "make" command, will the necessary ~/.Xsession and/or .xinitrc files etc be initialized and created/setup automagically? What about some kind of shell script that "audits" ones XFree86 setup and reports where binaries and config files are or are needed?
